The Need for Safer Needle Devices
As per OSHA regulation 1910.1030 every organization that uses sharps devices (needles, scissors, etc.) must, at least annually, identify, evaluate, and select engineering and work practice controls. This regulation states that every employee must be involved in this process, if there is more than one facility within the organization, this process must be completed at each location. Furthermore, it must be documented that this process has taken place. This can be an overwhelming task and we are always getting asked about this particular OSHA regulation, the problem is most people don’t know where to start. With that being said, below are links for you to follow and use to help you complete this annual OSHA requirement. The first link will take you to a site in which you can view different needles / sharps devices that are available for you to test. The second link will open a form that we have created to aid in the documenting process when choosing your safer devices. The last link takes you to an informational sheet with a step by step process that you can implement in order to make choosing safer devices a little less intimidating. We know the process can be a little scary, but we are always here to help. Please feel free to reach out to BioServ with any questions regarding your OSHA Compliance needs.
