How Our Sharps Disposal Service Works

Our sharps disposal service employs single-stream waste management. This means you can dispose of your waste sharps containers in the same box we provide for your general medical waste. There’s no need to segregate or store sharps separately—it all goes in one box!

When your sharps container fills, simply seal it and place it in the medical waste box provided by BioServ. The quantity you can fit into one box will depend on the size of the sharps container you are using and what other wastes you have placed into the box. When you’re ready for disposal, one of our technicians will seal and label your boxes and transport them to an EPA-approved autoclave facility for destruction.

Can sharps go in regular trash?
Sharps should never be placed in regular trash or recycling bins. Improper sharps disposal increases the risk of injury and exposure for employees, waste handlers, and the public.
When should a sharps container be replaced?
Sharps containers should generally be replaced before they become completely full. Overfilled containers increase the risk of punctures, accidental exposure, and unsafe handling during sharps disposal.
Can expired needles and syringes go into sharps containers?
Expired needles and syringes should still be placed in approved sharps containers for proper disposal. Sharps disposal regulations apply regardless of whether the devices were used or unused.
